Private Training

Whether for behavior modification or basic manners, private training can be just the focused training you need to meet your training goals!

Who benefits from private training?

♦ Owners whose schedule can’t accommodate group classes

♦ Owners who need the one on one time with the trainer to ask questions or acquire the new skills

♦ Dogs who are easily overwhelmed or fearful in new situations or around people or dogs

♦ Dogs who need to improve their behavior in the real world

♦ Dogs struggling with behavioral issues (aggression or reactivity)

Benefits of private training

♦ Focuses on the training issues most important to you rather than the broad scope of a group class

♦ Huge amounts of devoted one on one time with the trainer to ask all of your questions

♦ Work on the training in your home environment or in the real world from the get go,rather than transition from class eventually

Our Process for Private Training

1st--Pinpoint all the problem areas and provide initial plan for fast improvements

All of our private training starts with an initial consultation either at our training center or via zoom.

This is a 2 hour session that is mostly a conversation (and observation time if in person) to help us gather the necessary information we need to help you and your dog with the most effective training plan. Think of it like a consultation with a doctor–you go in for “knee pain” and they ask a bunch of questions to figure out a probable diagnosis and treatment or information to refer you to the right specialist.

We will get important details about your dog’s unwanted or concerning behavior, will talk about your training goals, will provide management solutions to help quickly improve the situation, and will give you some training exercises or activities that you can use to start working on the issues.

Lastly, we’ll give you our recommendation for the next step of training that will best help you meet yoru goals–group class and/or private training package and/or day training.

2nd-- Learn the skills that will help you resolve your problems

You wouldn’t learn to fly a plane by sitting in the cockpit of a 747 doing a trans-pacific flight loaded with passengers, so why would you try to learn/teach your dog in the heat of a meltdown or in the environment your dog is struggling.

Our philosophy is that the best route to resolving your problems is making sure human and dogs are well-prepared before jumping into the challenging situation (let’s learn on a simulator before you try to fly the plane full of innocent people across an ocean). We will teach you and your dog the skills first at our training center or via zoom so you both can master the skills in easy environments.

What we learned over COVID where in-home sessions were not possible is that both humans and dogs mastered the skills more easily when initial learning was done at our center.  Since the center is low-distraction for both parties and is large enough to truly practice the skills, our teams have been progressing faster than we ever expected.

3rd-- Implement the skills you have learned at home or in the situation you struggle

So you’ve mastered the book knowledge, aced the flight simulator, and put in hours flying a variety of smaller planes in various conditions, NOW it’s time to get in the cockpit of the 747.

After a few sessions at our center or zoom where your dog learns the skills we will use to resolve your issues, we can open up in-home (or in public) sessions for those in our service area to implement these new skills in the environments where your dog struggled.

Our goal is always to set our students up for success and learning the skills before being asked to perform them in diffcult situations is the best process for both the human and the dog.
