Rally Skills
Levels 1-3
Our “Skill Building” classes are all about learning the signs for a given level of World Cynosport Rally-O (we can help with the signs for other venues, but we will teach WCR).
These classes are not about precision in completing the skills, but simply learning the skills within the rules of WCR and teaching handlers how to perform the signs correctly. For precision, see our Dog Sports Foundation class or heeling specialty class we offer occasionally.
Teams will learn the skills precisely enough to compete in the future, should they choose.
We will cover all level 1 signs and the most common level 2 signs for bonuses. The last week of class we will put the pieces together in a short course!
Rally Skill Building level 2
We will cover all level 2 signs and the most common level 3 signs used as bonuses. Level 2 is an off-leash level, so all dogs must be capable of working off-leash with other dogs around.
Rally Skill Building Level 3
We will cover all level 3 signs and the bonuses. Level 3 is performed off leash.
Rally Courses
Levels 1-3
For dogs 6 months and older
These 7 week long classes all have week 1 as a humans only classs where we review the level signs and rules and the remaining weeks there will be a new course (or two) every class.
Dogs will be crated while the humans get to walk the course and ask any questions about the course or signs. Then each dog and handler team will run the course individually (we aim for 2-3 runs per class).
Students will get feedback on increasing precision, scoring feedback, and trouble shooting for each team. Whether our students are planning on competing or just having fun, we always want students improving!
Dogs MUST have previously taken the skill-building class at the level they are taking OR similar class elsewhere.
Levels 2 and 3 are performed off-leash and dogs must be reliable to stay engaged with their handlers.
In each level class, Tena may design courses the first few weeks to practice specific skills like fronts, finishes, stays, heeling into corners, and more.
Dog Sports
Foundations
This class is all about precision skills! Clean cues, precise behavior, and skills that are cross-training for many different sports. Foundations for heeling, for fronts/finishes, agility handling, and even scent work.
We recently added scent discrimination to the curriculum so it now coincides with the Fenzi TEAM title program.
This class is typically offered in back to back sessions as there is a ton to master in a single session but two gives you more opportunity to focus on the skills you would like each session.
The ability to reliably work off-leash in class is very helpful for some skills but dogs MUST be comfortable in class environment.
Skills we cover in class:
-Engagement and pivot
-Finding heel
-Finding front
-Position changes at 6ft
-Send around a cone
-Send to a vertical target
-Take a jump
-Scent discrimination
-Stay and release to food bowl
-Backup
Agility Prep
This class is all about the foundation skills of agility. 80% of agility is what happens between the obstacles and this class is designed to build solid foundation of how to navigate those spaces in between.
Once the foundation of moving together, driving a line, finding what side to be on, communicating changes of direction or side, etc are known, it’s easy to put the obstacles into that framework.
The equipment dogs will learn about are jumps, tunnels, platform (pause table), and a ramp or teeter.
♦ Flatwork for sending over jumps
♦ Flatwork for front crosses (posssibly rear crosses)
♦ Beginning of startline stays
♦ Race to the reinforcer
♦ Handling skills (what side to be on)
♦ Running a parallel path
♦ Foundation jump grids
♦ Obstacle independence
♦ Tunnel and ramp or teeter
Dogs MUST be able to work off the leash around other moving dogs.
Tricks Classes
Various Levels
For dogs 4 months and older (yes even little puppies!)
We offer trick dog classes that can lead the way to you and your dog earning a title through Do More With Your Dog or AKC.
We offer all levels of trick classes for both programs and our intstructor has earned the highest individual trick title on several dogs.
Tricks are a great way to continue to build a relationship with your dog through fun training but it’s also a way to keep your dog thinking, learning, and busy! Use their brains for good rather than trouble making!
The higher level trick classes may need to be taken multiple times to master the tricks and earn the titles.
