Consultations

Whether you need just a little individualized help to compliment your group class or you are starting your private training journey, a consultation is our first step!

Why do we require a consultation prior to private training?

♦ We want a chance to fully assess the situation and not base our training plan on guesses or assumptions

♦ Your dog’s behavior doesn’t happen in a vacuum, there are a lot of environmental factors at play and we want to learn about those things so we can make effective suggestions for improvement

♦ Often we hear or see things in the consult that make us suggest reaching out to your vet to rule out something medical–we are fabulous trainers, but if your pup actually has a medical issue contributing to the behavior issue, even the best training won’t fix it

♦ We are 100% commited to the overall behavioral wellness of our students. They are more than their behavioral struggle and we want to see the big picture as well as the details.

♦ Creating an effective behavior plan for long-lasting behavior change, requires us to do more than bandaid symptoms, we want to figure out and address root causes

♦ We want to give you an opportunity to really tell us about your dog and the struggles or concerns you are having. We are here to listen and support you and the consult gives ample time to listen and hear you

What to expect at your consultation

♦ Either a 1.5 or 2hr conversation either in person at our training centers or via zoom.

♦ If in-person, as long as your dog is safe around humans, they’ll have a pile of toys or treats to play with and can explore the training center and play. If your pup is not safe around their trainer on the first session, we will set up to give your pup a sense of safety and do our best to give them opportunities to have fun and explore safely

♦ Part of the conversation is a detailed information gathering session for your trainer to get a complete picture of what’s going on to make educated suggestions specific to your pup, your lifestyle, your home, etc

♦ You can expect to get an assessment of or feedback about your pet’s behaviors, the struggles you are having, or answers to your questions

♦ You can expect to be given an immediate action plan of things to implement at home for an initial triaging of the sitaution. You’ll likely have a management plan to implement, routine or schedule adjustments, suggestions for useful products to help your dog, and often a training exercise to get started with

♦ A clear plan for what comes next for your dog–whether continued private training, jumping into a group class, or if another program that we offer would be the best option
